By the way, anyone want to party for the Holiday season? Friday December 14 at 7pm.
SAVE THE DATE, because we're having our 2018 Holiday Party at @StandardDevBrew ! We'll have games, a raffle, and Emperor Norton, who will present his award for SF City supporter of the year. Members who show their membership cards will also get two FREE drinks! Don't miss it! pic.twitter.com/uWXPCqMGh1
A disclaimer – I have a membership with the team. In any case, anyone looking for a place to celebrate this is the place over any company or corporate event. It’s a month away so plenty of time to plan. Hope to see some of you there!
The San Jose Earthquakes has announced their staff to assist new head coach Matias Almeyda in 2019. Omar Zarif and Benjamin Galindo will serve as assistant coaches, Carlos Roa joins as a goalkeeper coach, Guido Bonini will oversee strength and conditioning, and Fabio Alvarez will take over as the team’s kinesiologist. Almeyda, Zarif, Roa, Bonini and Alvarez all worked together at Chivas, where they recently led the Mexican side to the 2018 CONCACAF Champions League title in April.
Jyri Nieminen assignment was transferred from goalkeeper coach to player development at Reno 1868 FC and the youth academy, but will still with Roa in tandem with the players on the first team. Steve Ralston and Greg Tella were released from the team to make room for the new additions.
Further information can be read at the team site at sjearthquakes.com
By the way, thank you James. Looking forward to the next matchups. 🙂 James being Jimmy Conrad from the Quakes, Sporting KC, and the US National Team now plying his trade with the rival Glens. We’ll be reporting on them as well.
Our task last weekend was to be at a match. Unfortunately, due to the weather conditions and air quality the Stompers game against San Ramon was canceled. No date has been rescheduled. The same with most events around the area, though some others went on as planned.
Also the JASA-Stompers game has been rescheduled for Saturday November 24 at 5pm and that match could go down to who gets the second playoff spot with the Redwood City club already having a lock on first place.

And yes, Sunday the Oakland Roots hosted a party. According to a report from Front Row Soccer they are rumored to be in the NPSL Pro for next year. Right now, stay tuned as official announcements for a league and kits to be unveiled in the coming weeks.
We are excited to announce a partnership with @Oaklandish, your future home for official Oakland Roots merchandise. A portion of all Roots x Oaklandish proceeds will go to local charities. #OaklandFirstAlwayspic.twitter.com/UB4wAZd7iG
We held back on posting this here but since our buddies at the Beautiful Blog decided to write an article on this news item, we felt that it needed to be posted. We are about having fun and celebrating the game from the top flight to the lower tier here in the Bay Area but the mission statement is that all are welcome. Once again props to Doug for having this news item at the main site.
Also some very very sad news. More so when it hits close to home in the soccer world. We would rather report on the fun and joy of the game, and the only sadness and despair we’d rather tell is about the team losing a match or a player getting hurt during the match. The local soccer community and everyone else rallied behind one of their own.

Dan from Quakesfan.com has his latest podcast. Again, we’re more of a photo and journalism site but we like to give some love to the people who can do a better job commenting on the Quakes or Bay Area soccer in general. So, check it out.
This weekend on Saturday November 17, the Stompers and JASA will be in US Open Cup action. The former will be hosting Academica SC at Raimondi Park at 7:30pm while the latter will be on the road to Portland, Oregon to play IPS/Marathon Taverna 7pm kickoff. Any more news stay tuned here for the latest.
Keeping this short – if you are a citizen, vote and you can complain all you want. Vote in person or vote by mail (absentee). Don’t vote – can’t complain and if you do, don’t want to hear it. 🙂 From 2012 – Quakes v Galaxy during the Goonies run. On a personal note the gang pulled 3 choreographed banners in the game.
Once again, continuing the series – this time posted by the team itself. The home opener also marked the return to Kezar Stadium after spending the 2017 up the road at Negoesco Stadium at the University of San Francisco campus.
We decided to take a break from coverage this weekend. However, two UPSL matches took place last weekend between the Oakland Stompers and Real San Jose at the PAL Stadium. In a match that was reminiscent of the old Stompers vs Quakes meetings, even for only one season, and with second place on the line the East Bay club secured an important road win over Real San Jose 6-1 thanks to 2 goals from P.J. Garcia. The blowout win was their second straight game with 6 goals and moved them in a tie for the remaining post-season spot, with 8 points.
JASA Redwood City played on the road at San Ramon Dynamos with the away team coming up on top 2-1 and the winner of that match is now in the driver’s seat with the top spot in the division with 15 points and a playoff berth secured. The top two finishers will advance to the Western Conference Playoffs.
San Ramon heads to Oakland to play the Stompers on November 10 while San Leandro hosts Real San Jose on the same night. JASA has one more game against the Stompers, which was scheduled to be on November 17 but with both teams partaking in the Third Round of US Open Cup Qualifying that game will be rescheduled, with the Stompers at home hosting Academica SC, while JASA heading up to Portland to play IPS/Marathon Taverna. The new date is yet to be announced and could have playoff implications for the second spot.
There may be few games ongoing right now, but we’re not taking the day off and if we find anything Bay Area soccer related we’ll post it. Enjoy the week.
In other news…
Once again, this is next week November 14 6:30pm at the Roxie Theater.
From October 20. I took the shot so I’m MIA, and I’m not into the spotlight–just want to create fun and great stuff. However, only a few words so it’s about serving the community. Thank you San Francisco City. And a shoutout to Standard Deviant Brewery!
Special thanks to these gentleman here for spending a few hours of their time volunteering at the San Francisco-Marin Food Bank.
