Some articles of note:
Protagonist Soccer has an article on the East Bay (NPSL)/Oakland Stompers (UPSL) and their thoughts behind the name that was around for only one season in the NASL in 1978 but managed to stick around from then until now. For that one year the top flight had a major Bay Area rivalry with the established San Jose Earthquakes and one would wonder what would have been had it been allowed to flourish. The Stompers left for Edmonton to be renamed the Drillers the following year. Still, check it out.
