San Jose kicked off their 2020 season against the defending Eastern Conference champions Toronto FC. The Canadian club got off to a lead thanks to a penalty kick goal from Alejandro Pozuelo in the 40th minute from the penalty spot, and another goal early in the second half from Richie Laryea. The Quakes mounted a second half comeback thanks to a goal from Andy Rios in the 53rd minute.
The home team was destined for another loss when Oswaldo Alanis scored off a free kick in the closing minutes of stoppage time to steal a point from Toronto FC.
The Quakes will next play against Minnesota on Saturday March 7 4:45 kickoff, while Toronto FC will open up their home schedule against NYCFC on the same day 2:00 start.
