The Quakes lose to the Loons 5-2. The wet weather and the recent health news on coronavirus (COVID-19) were enough to reduce the attendance despite the recent concerns but it was a former teammate that did the team in.
The Quakes had to play catchup from the start due to a goal in the 13th minute by former player Ike Opara but thanks to Video Assisted Replay (VAR) San Jose was awarded a penalty kick in which Magnus Eriksson was able to convert 6 minutes later. However, the Loons were able to pull away with the lead and the win thanks to goals from Jan Luis Robin, and another from Opara. Vako’s tally in the 53rd was the only consolation goal.
Minnesota will next host NYCFC in their home opener on Sunday March 15 at 4pm, while the Quakes will hit the road for the first time when Philadelphia kicks off their home schedule on Saturday March 14 at 4:30pm.
