The Roots Blog also has the latest on the Soul, who currently are emerging as the team to beat in the division. Of note: Jon’s report is from last week against the Glens. The Soul blow out Academica SC last Saturday at Hayward 6-2 with a barrage of goals dominating the second half. Their final two games at Merritt College are against California Storm on Thursday June 12 and the Glens on Sunday June 30. Both games kick off at 6pm.

Bay FC was on the road to play at Chicago against the Red Stars at the home of the baseball Cubs. This time a bit of payback as the San Jose club win 2-1 thanks to goals from Kiki Pickett in the 25th minute and Joelle Anderson with 11 minutes to go in the second half plus stoppage time. Penelope Hocking spoiled the shutout bid with her goal late in the game. The team returns home to PayPal Park to host fellow expansion team Utah Royals (the second incarnation of the club) Sunday night at 7pm.
Sacramento defeat Monterey Bay 2-0 on the road . Next up for Sacramento is the Roots at home while Monterey head to play North Carolina away.
