SF City FC v Project 51O

SF City FC v Project 51O

Project 510 defeats SF City 2-1 and eliminate them from postseason play in another Battle of the Bay match.  Two quick goals from the Oakland Roots second unit from Roberto Gonzales and Bradley Roberson in the 23rd and 24th minutes were enough to put a dagger in City’s postseason hopes.  Issac Sandoval’s strike in the 43rd minute sparked an attempted comeback but the East Bay club was able to fend off the City attack the rest of the match.

SF City finishes in 4th place with 6 wins 4 draws and 4 losses with Project 510 one rank below with 5 wins 6 draws and 3 losses.  Debutant San Juan clinches a spot while an Almaden win or draw against Academica at home will give them the second one.  An Almaden win will also give them the title over San Juan based on their series winning both games.  An Almaden loss will mean the Glens get in due to their sweep of the head-to-head season series with their two wins.

While SF City was able to finish their season on a high note, the looming specter or MLS Next Pro coming to Kezar will mean looking for another venue but this is one team that will not go away and bigger expectations will be prevalent for them in 2026.  The division has demonstrated parity since the return of USL League Two play since 2022 after a two year hiatus in 2020 and 2021.  The increased popularity of SF City will mean the bar will be set higher.
