In a friendly match that was announced only last month, Bay FC hosted the first of two games with Angel City travelling up the road to PayPal Park in a Saturday matinee. The game was merely for players to get fit during the international break with the Women’s Euros and Copa America in full swing, the African Nations Cup, and Asian Cup qualifying. Some key players were absent from the game, including Racheal Kundananji with Zambia and Asisat Oshoala with Nigeria on international duty.
With nothing at stake the teams fielded most of their players in a 1-1 draw with both teams making substitutions throughout the match. Jun Endo of Angel City gave the visitors the lead with her 27th minute strike, while Penelope Hocking drew the match even in the 57th.
Next up for Bay FC is the second game of the Summer Series with Japanese club Urawa Reds visiting on Sunday July 27 at 4pm while Angel City will host USL Super League club Carolina Ascent on Saturday July 26 at 5pm. Both clubs return to league play with Bay FC hosting Houston on Saturday August 2 at 7pm and Angel City returning to the road to play Seattle on Friday August 1 at 7:30pm.
