The Quakes break a deadlock with a dramatic second half goal to win 2-1 over 2nd place team Vancouver. The home team capitalized on a red card issued to Whitecaps defender Edier Ocampo in the 27th minute after being issued two yellow cards in the match.
The match was scoreless in the first half until Josef Martínez scored off the penalty spot in the 54th minute. Towards the end of the game Vancouver’s Brian White scored off a feed from Tristan Blackmon in the 88the minute possibly securing the possible point on the road. Six minutes later DeJuan Jones set up a pass to Jamar Ricketts who fed the ball to Preston Judd and in turn put the ball into the next to secure the victory in stoppage time giving the Quakes the full three points and back into 8th place in the Western Conference playoff race.
Next up for the Quakes is another home match, this time against first place and first year expansion team San Diego FC in their first meeting ever next Sunday August 17 at 4pm. Vancouver returns home in league play on the same day against Houston at 6pm, but will have a Canadian Championship match on the road to on Wednesday August 13 at 4pm with a cross country trip against Canadian Premier League club Forge FC of Hamilton, Ontario.
