In their first ever meeting, the Quakes could not hold on the lead and MLS debutants San Diego FC come back to win 2-1 to maintain their hold on the top spot in the MLS Western Conference standings. Despite the loss, San Jose still are above the playoff line with the ninth and final spot.
Josef Martinez gave the Quakes the lead late in the second half with his strike in the 71st minute. However, they could not hold on to the lead with Marcus Ingvarsten and Anders Dreyer coming back with two goals in three minutes with their respective 81st and 84th minute tallies. The Quakes attempted to score an equalizer but to no avail.
San Jose head on the road to face the Houston Dynamo on Saturday August 23 at 5:30pm, while San Diego FC returns home to host Portland on the same day 7:30 pm start.
