The Town FC v Rapids 2

The Town FC v Rapids 2

The Town FC were eliminated from the MLS Next Pro playoffs with a 4-2 defeat to Rapids 2.  The winner will host Minnesota 2 in the semi-finals.

Billo Diop gave the visitors a 1-0 lead in the 24th minute, but Colorado’s Vincente Rinaldi put the ball into his own net off The Town’s Nonso Adimabua drawing the score even.  Alex Harris one hour into the match gave the Rapids the lead again, with Adimabua putting the ball on his own in the 72nd minute.

However, it was extra time where the Rapids took the lead for good with Anderson Rosa getting the game winner off the penalty spot two minutes in, and Antony García with the 114th minute dagger–and insurance for the win.

While the main team is yet to host a playoff game since the stadium opened in 2015, it was the Quakes second unit that provided thrills in the knockout rounds.  However, it was the higher seed that could not get the result and the unit also known as The Town FC is left to ponder the major “what if” and to improve for 2026 whether they play in Moraga or San Jose.  Moreover, they will be planning to prepare for players who will either move up to the Quakes roster, play for other clubs, and who will be rising up the ranks from the Academy.
