Washington defeats Bay FC 2-0 on Easter Sunday before a crowd of over 10,000. While both teams were held to a first half scoreless draw it was second half defensive lapses that contributed to the loss with Brooklyn Courtnall putting the ball into her own net in the 56th after a lob that seemed to be a defensive save ended up crossing the line. However, it was Washington substitute Gift Monday that gave the Spirit the insurance goal with her 86th minute strike and the eventual win.
Bay FC will take a pause in the season until April 25 with a road trip to New Jersey to face current champions Gotham FC with an early 10am start time. They will host a friendly on Friday April 17 at 7pm when they host Ottawa Rapid FC of the Northern Super League in Canada. Washington Spirit will also take a break and resume league play against Kansas City on Friday April 24 at 5pm.
