Water Polo

I had the privilege of covering the NCAA Water Polo Final Four for American Presswire on December 6 and 7, 2025. USC played against Fordham in the first game on the 6th, while defending champion UCLA dueled against host Stanford in the second match.  Sunday’s final was an LA battle with UCLA and USC playing for the Championship.

Eight universities took part in the tournament with USC (University of Southern California), UCLA (University of California Los Angeles), Stanford, and Fordham ranked in the top four with CUI (Concordia University-Irvine), Princeton, San Jose State, and UC Davis rounding out the field.

USC defeated CUI 16-6, Fordham advanced by winning over San Jose State 13-9, UCLA as defending champions staved off Princeton 15-11, and host Stanford eliminated UC Davis 15-9 to set up the Final Four.

The semi-finals pitted USC winning 16-7 against Fordham, while UCLA took down the hosts Stanford 9-7 in a nail-biter setting up the championship game with the two LA universities in another sports classic.  The game went down to the wire with UCLA successfully defending their championship with a 11-10 win over USC with a buzzer beater goal in regulation.
