SF City loses in a heartbreaker against Academica (Turlock, CA) 3-2 dealing them a blow to their playoff chances. The team must win their remaining 3 games while Almaden FC (San Jose) needs to lose or draw one of their matches.
Issay Bravo gave the home team the early lead in the 16th minute with his strike in the box. The team could not hold on to that lead as Julian Lomeli drew the equalizer with his 33rd minute goal. City took back the lead and one minute into the second half with Israel Cortez striking the net. The euphoria could not last as Lomeli of Academica scored his second goal in the 50th minute. The teams were about to split the points as Felipe Lopez netted the game winner in the 90th minute and getting the full 3 points on the road.
Next up for City is the SF Derby against the Glens at Kezar on Wednesday July 2 at 5:30pm and another Sunday home match against Monterey on Sunday July 6 at 5:30pm, while Academica continues their road swing against Davis Legacy on Wednesday at 7pm before returning home to face Almaden on Saturday July 5 at 7pm.
