The Quakes and Red Bulls draw even at 1-1 in what was billed at PayPal Park’s First Fireworks show. The tradition was in years past held at Stanford but for last week it was replaced with a drone show.
The Red Bulls got the lead thanks to Emil Forsberg’s goal in the 19th minute in which the Quakes defense and goalkeeper Daniel could not shut him down. San Jose got a break in goal when Mohammed Sofo of New York struck the ball into his own goal resulting in the tie.
The Quakes’ Dejuan Jones and the Red Bulls Raheem Edwards were sent off in the 64th and 87th minutes respectively.
Next up for both the Quakes and Red Bulls are US Open Cup matches. San Jose will host Austin on Tuesday July 8 at 7:30pm, while New York will travel to Philadelphia in their Cup match on Wednesday July 9 at 4pm and also in league play on Saturday July 12 at 4:30 in a double series. The Quakes in league play will head to play Minnesota 0n Saturday 5:30pm start.
