This Week 10-6-25

Just the one game this Sunday at Moraga for The Town FC–who will play possibly on October 20, either at PayPal Park or St. Mary’s College against an opponent to be determined–either Minnesota, North Texas, Vancouver, or Ventura County.  They also had a mid-week match at PayPal Park where they defeated Vancouver 2-1.

The Roots lose at El Paso on the road and will have a Tuesday night match.  Our friends at Soccer Bay Area and The Blog have their takes.

Oakland Roots Playoff Hopes Dim After Lackluster Effort at El Paso

Oakland Roots playoff hopes dwindling fast in disastrous 3-1 loss at El Paso Locomotive

The Quakes lose 4-1 at Vancouver on Sunday and now face a must win on Saturday October 19 at home against Austin.  A win and some help will get them in but will be eliminated with a tie or loss.  Beau Leroux was the lone shining light of the match with his late second half goal. Rayan Elloumi, Thomas Müller, and Sebastian Berhalter’s brace accounted for the Whitecaps scoring and convincing victory.

Bay FC lose 2-1 at Portland on Saturday and have been eliminated from playoff contention and a chance to play at home for the NWSL Championship which will be played on November 22.  Taylor Huff gave Bay the lead with her 36th minute strike but it was Olivia Moultrie’s brace with her 51st and 69th minute goals that gave the Thorns the win on a night in which they honored Christine Sinclair.  Of note: she was part of the FC Gold Pride team that won the 2010 title when they were in WPS (Women’s Professional Soccer).  Next up is a Friday night match at Seattle before their return home the following week to host North Carolina before finishing the season on the road at Louisville.

There is one more breaking news and it looks likes the Roots will be playing at the Coliseum for the 2026 season.  However, the Soul will most likely continue their play at the USL-W at Merritt College instead of the USL-Super League with the occasional one match at the main grounds.  Jonathan Comeaux of The Roots Blog has the latest.
