For some last minute holiday gifts or for any other occasion we have some recommendations.
Our friend at Soccer Bay Area published this book in 2018 capturing the spirit of soccer through his lens. The book gives an insight on the global game through photographs in ways that will personify past and future soccer events. For any fan of the game it’s worth the look.
Silicon Alleys: Selected Metro Silicon Valley Columns, 2005-2020
The San Jose Earthquakes: A Seismic Soccer Legacy
Unforgettable San Jose Earthquakes, The: Momentous Stories On & Off the Field by Gary Singh
Another friend of the game wrote these three books written by the Metro San Jose columnist and lifelong fan and historian of the San Jose Earthquakes regales the readers with his stories about the team from the old NASL era to the current modern day up to the 50th anniversary in 2024. From the the days of Krazy George and Pele making an appearance with the New York Cosmos to the development of stars from Johnny Moore, Paul Child, and the legend of George Best in this working class city he gives a compendium of the early days to the return of the game with MLS and the San Jose Clash in 1996 (later returning to the Earthquakes name in 2000). That revival of the team is told with stars Eric Wynalda, Landon Donovan, and Chris Wondolowski leading up to the opening of Avaya Stadium (now PayPal Park) to 50 years of San Jose soccer.
These books are a must read not only for any Earthquakes fan but for every one who loves this game. His collection of articles from Silicon Alleys not only tells us about the soccer team but other local pop culture stories from the Ramones to the origin of the Doobie Brothers so all three books are an eclectic read for sports and art/music fans alike.
Enjoy the holidays and stay tuned for more hot stove news in Bay Area soccer leading to the 2026 season.
