This Week 2-2-26

Only a few weeks before the Quakes begin their 2026 campaign.  This will be the last year where they will go to a spring to fall slate before a short spring season followed by a fall to spring schedule to commence August 2027.

Our updated 2026 schedule announcements are here.

We have more news from our friends at Soccer Bay Area and the Oakland Roots Blog.

United States Women’s National Team to play at PayPal Park on April 12

Oakland Roots sign CB Michael Edwards

With the hot stove still continuing to now, the Roots made one move along with Bay FC acquiring England defender Anouk Denton from West Ham United, but the Quakes made the biggest splash, but it might have come at a cost with the loss of Cristian Espinoza to Nashville and Josef Martinez to Xolos Tijuana in Mexico. The Quakes loan Chicho Arango to Atletico Nacional of Colombia so he returns to his native country for this year as he deals with a personal matter closer to home. As of now, he and Hernan Lopez could be bought outright or return to the team in due time.

As reported last week, German international Timo Werner signs with the Quakes on a Designated Player contract. Despite the major subtraction of three key offensive attack minded players, he provides an instant scoring punch seen in comparison to another acquisition in Landon Donovan back in 2001. Werner brings stellar experience that could make the team a contender and can provide leadership for younger players in Beau Leroux and Niko Tsikaris.

Some of the achievements that Timo Werner brings are as follows, including appearing at the 2018 World Cup for Germany in Russia.  He made additional appearances for his national team leading up to the 2022 event but missed the tournament in Qatar due to injury.
