Once again, looking for any soccer related podcasts in the San Francisco Bay Area or Northern California to be included in the list. We started a compendium in July and we are still looking for ones to be added, or anything that was missed. If you’re interested, here’s the list from July.
Anything local, from the top flight to the lower leagues are of interest. The mission statement is to try and promote the game in the San Francisco Bay Area but also along Northern California. For now, the focus on the website will be photos and reports/summaries from any games around the local San Francisco Bay Area. If there’s anything to be added feel free to drop us a line here or at twitter at 3pointsportsf and thanks!
We were at the Quakes v Dallas game on Wednesday. On Saturday, San Jose hope to extract some revenge for their loss last weekend when they head to Vancouver to play the return leg – kickoff Saturday September 1 at 7pm.
Some news from Wednesday from Quakestalk.com and Quakesfans.
The US Women will be at Avaya Stadium Tuesday September 4 against Chile in their final warmup before World Cup qualifying for France 2019. Kick-off at 7pm. Update: Quakesfan’s take on the upcoming match.
On Wednesday Clint Dempsey announced his retirement from soccer effective immediately. He caps off an illustrious career that started with the New England Revolution, then to Fulham and Tottenham Hotspur of the English Premier League, and back to MLS with the Seattle Sounders. He also has been a decorated player for the US National Team appearing in 3 World Cups, a Confederations Cup in 2009, the 2016 Copa America, and 5 Gold Cup tournaments.
As a tribute here are some photos from the vault – either from FootySF, QuakesFan, or in the stands courtesy of Nap.
Yes, he did play for Seattle in his later years and has been that thorn on the side of Quakes fans, but as one of the greats for the US National Team he has taken that club to greater heights. His achievements ought to be applauded so, thank you Clint and the best of luck in the next career path.
In the return leg FC Dallas and the San Jose Earthquakes met for the second time this season and in the month of August. Maximiliano Urruti opened up the scoring with his goal in the 8th minute to give the visitors a 1-0 lead. However Vako responded with 2 goals of his own in the 15th and 42nd minute to give the Quakes a 2-1 lead at the half. Dallas evened up the score 6 minutes into the second half with a tally from Santiago Mosquera in the 51st minute to tie at 2-2. The home team took the lead back a short time later with a goal from Magnus Eriksson in the 54th minute. The game was tied again 3-3 with a score from Dominique Badji in the 58th minute. The home team finally got something to cheer abut with a goal from Chris Wondolowski with an assist from Vako in the 62nd minute. The goal was the 142nd of his illustrious career and moved him 3 goals closer to the record of 145 set by Landon Donovan. The Quakes never looked back and won their second home game of the season with a 4-3 win over FC Dallas. The victory also marked a sweep of the home and home series for San Jose, having won 3-1 at Frisco, TX on August 4.
