AFC South Bay v Capo FC (NISA Independent Cup)

In a winner take all matchup between AFC South Bay of San Jose and Capo FC from San Juan Capistrano, it was SoCal that took the prize over NorCal in a 1-0 win for the visitors.  An early goal was enough for Capo FC to advance to the NISA Independent Cup Southern California Region title game against Albion San Diego.

AFC South Bay is left with what might have been, but the team has a bright future in NISA Nation with the hopes of getting promoted/added to the top tier–another team that lost in the tournament, Modesto City, also aspires to serve as a future professional club in Northern California.  Bay Cities will host Wentachee All-Stars FC (Washington state), who won the NISA Independent Cup Pacific Region group after defeating Modesto and Battleborn FC (Reno, Nevada area), on Saturday July 23 at 6pm.

Premier Rugby Sevens

Once again, we’re on the rugby beat thanks to the event being hosted at PayPal Park.

The Premier Rugby Sevens league is a touring event comprising of 4 men’s and women’s teams, and serves as the professional club circuit for sevens.  Also players from the Olympic team compete in this league where Sevens is the primary medal showcase.  The match is known for its open and free form play where the games are comprised of two halves split into 7 minutes.

The current tour held its opener at PayPal Park on July 9 and the tour continues to Washington DC at Audi Field on July 16 and Austin, Texas at Q2 Stadium on July 30.

Finally our friends at Quakesfan.com has their take on Matias.  Given there was only one postseason appearance and a myriad of tactics that led to his early departure we’ll let them say it right here.  It is from May but once again it’s rebuild mode.  This can only happen for so long.
