In the first international friendly in over three years at PayPal Park, a sellout crowd was entertained by a rivalry game with El Salvador and Guatemala.
Despite the match being nothing more than a warmup to the upcoming CONCACAF Nations League it was Guatemala earning the 4-0 win.
The photo album and our select shots:
El Salvador will have one more warmup game against Panama at Cary, NC on Sunday May 1 before opening Nations League play June 4 and 7 with a home-and-home series against Grenada. Guatemala will travel to Orlando to play a friendly against Mexico on Wednesday April 27 before their League schedule begins at French Guiana on June 2.
The Quakes come back to defeat the Seattle Sounders 4-3 to earn their first win of the 2022 campaign under interim coach Alex Covelo. Cristian Espinoza’s hat trick with the third one coming in from the penalty spot during the second half of stoppage time sealed the victory.

The Quakes will now hit the road for a Sunday match against the defending MLS Cup champions New York City FC on Sunday May 1 at 10am, while the Sounders have a CONCACAF Champions League series against UNAM Pumas for the next two Wednesdays on April 27 at Mexico City and May 4 at Seattle. They resume league play on Saturday May 7 at 5:30pm with a road trip to Dallas. The Quakes and Sounders will meet again May 11 at Seattle with the winner advancing in the US Open Cup.
Fresh off a major coaching change for the Quakes and a last minute win for Bay Cities FC in the last round of the tournament both clubs were looking for a momentum shift. What was “won on paper” turned out to be a reality as the top flight club made the upstart visitors who became familiar with the stadium come crashing down to earth and ending their run after two games with a resounding 5 to 0 win for the Quakes.
The game was no contest thanks to goals from Jack Skahan, Paul Marie, Cade Cowell from the penalty spot, Niko Tsakiris, and Ousseni Bouda.
While the Quakes await their next opponent in the Open Cup they return to MLS play with another home match against Seattle on Saturday April 23 at 7pm. Bay Cities return to NISA play on the same day and time with another road match to Southern California to face Cal United Strikers.
