This Week 3-21-22

Our weekend coverage was at Redwood City for Bay Cities vs Xolos Tijuana of Liga MX–in this case their U23 team and the Beach Chalet in San Francisco for City against Olympic Club.

For now, we’ll post the takes from Quakesfan on the Quakes loss to Minnesota 1-0 (too brief but enough for a mic drop) and the Oakland Roots blog on their 2-1 loss to Memphis 901 (the full skinny on the match).

Bay Cities will finally make their NISA debut next Saturday March 26 on the road against Los Angeles Force.  They continue their away swing on April 2 at Cal United Strikers (San Diego area) before finally making their home debut on April 9 against Valley United (Arizona) at Sequoia High School 7pm start.  Before their opener the team will play against USL Championship club and fellow debutant Monterey Bay FC at PayPal Park in San Jose in a US Open Cup match Wednesday April 6 7:30pm kickoff.  Tickets are available online and Quakes STH can contact their representative.

This Week 3-14-22

Our coverage this week was at Redwood City with Bay Cities on Saturday and at San Francisco with the City reserves on Sunday.

The Quakes lose to the Philadelphia Union 2-0 on the road, and are still winless in their 2022 season–with only a draw to the Crew as their only tangible result.  They hope to get into the win column at St. Paul against Minnesota United on Saturday March 19 at 5pm.

Quakesfan has the critique on the Quakes swing against Philly.  It is a hard look at the team right now but we will be honest–it is worth the academic read in the classic columnist/editorial style.  Once more the team could be in for a very long season after only three games.

Roots lose their opener on the road at Rio Grande Valley Toros 1-0.  Jon at the Roots blog has his takes on the match.  Next up is another away tilt at Memphis before the home opener on March 26 against Monterey.

Oakland Roots fall flat to Rio Grande in USL opener

3 Things we learned: Oakland Roots v Rio Grande

SF City (SFSFL) v Club Marin

In their second game back in the SFSFL Premier Division (Tier 1) SF City got off to an early lead, only to lose that towards the end of the first half and 60 minutes into the game.  The final result was a 2 to 1 defeat.  With their draw against Mexicali in their 2022 return/debut the team currently has one point in the standings.

Once again our set is here on the cloud.  All the original photos and Instagram takes are on here.

The SF City reserves will next play Olympic Club on March 20 at 2:45 pm while the USL League Two outfit will host Central Valley Fuego on Friday May 20.

USL League Two schedule: SF Glens

The schedule has been confirmed by the team.

The Glens will play at Skyline College in San Bruno while their Treasure Island venue is being constructed.  Their home opener will be against FC Golden State Force on May 13.  Key rivalry games include Marin FC (May 21 home/July 13 away) and the Roots reserve club Project 510 (May 29 away/June 16 home).

The only battle for SF will be played on June 4 with the Glens on the road against SF City with the venue to be determined.

Stay tuned here for any further League Two updates, as well as the other lower tiers, NISA, Roots, and Quakes coverage.

This Week 3-7-22

This week’s coverage was from San Jose, where the Quakes came back in dramatic fashion to draw 3-3 against Columbus.

We were able to catch SWPL action nearby with AFC South Bay hosting the JASA U23s.

We were unable to hit San Francisco to see the City reserves play against Mexicali FC but a 2-2 draw fresh off promotion back into the Premier Division is a respectable result.

The usual from Quakesfan – we’re going to say get Dan back into press row!

Soccer Bay Area has the highlights from the Quakes draw against the Crew:

Shorthanded SJ Quakes earn last-minute draw with Crew

Quakes v Crew

Despite very chippy play and a red card to Jamiro Monteiro in the 33rd minute and losing the lead, the Quakes come back and salvage a point with a 3-3 draw.

The Quakes got off to a 1-0 lead thanks to a Cristian Espinoza penalty kick at the  9th minute, but the Crew scored three answered goals thanks to Lucas Zelarayan in the 40th and 73rd minutes with Gyasi Zardes adding a tally as a substitute in the 68th minute.

The Quakes were able to come back and grab a point thanks to Francisco Calvo scoring in the 84th minute and six minutes into stoppage time.  Jan Gregus provided the assists on both goals.

Our selection is here – more can be found on the 3pointsport gram.

The Quakes will go on the road for the first time in 2022 when they visit Philadelphia on Saturday March 12 4:30 PST kickoff.  The Crew will return home and host Toronto on the same day 10:30am PST.
