Bay Cities FC v Monterey Bay FC (US Open Cup)

In what is deemed a major upset, and one since the 1997 run of the San Francisco Seals when they defeated what is now Sporting Kansas City (Wizards) and the second incarnation of the San Jose Earthquakes (Clash) – the upstart Bay Cities FC from Redwood City (NISA) led by founder and coach Anders Perez defeated Monterey Bay Cities FC 2-1.  It was of note that the coach of the losing team was Frank Yallop who was at the home of his former team and will once again return in two weeks on April 23 to have his name etched in the Quakes Wall of Fame.

While our highlight photo is here on Soccer Bay Area.  Doug Zimmerman has a better take on the game and yes, the significance is still hard to take it but still–an impressive victory by Bay Cities–who will play their home opener this Saturday against Valley United from Arizona at Tranmere Field 7pm start.
