Once again, the Bay Area has launched a bid to host a major sporting event.  This is nothing new given the 1994 World Cup, 1999 Women’s World Cup, 2016 Copa America, and other various matches.

The Quakes have put out a story on this possibility, which we think will happen once again.   Levi’s Stadium will likely serve as a main venue, though Stanford Stadium in Palo Alto and Memorial Stadium in Berkeley would possibly be good alternative sites.  Earthquakes Stadium, Santa Clara University, Boxer and Kezar Stadiums in San Francisco, plus San Francisco State would probably serve as practice facilities for the tournament.  Most or all would require some kind of refurbishing to accommodate the teams, media, and crowds.

The Bay Area bid has launched a website, and it would be a major shock if the Bay Area was passed in favor of another city.  We’ll bet that in six years the world will converge here for world class soccer.
