This Week 5-10-21

Our coverage this week was from Fremont in which the Stompers defeated NorCal Rush 3-1 in NSL Pacific play.  The photo album is also on our host.

Also, we were at the tryouts for the latest NISA club Bay Cities FC.  The team is scheduled to debut next year after the Oakland Roots leaving and joining the USL Championship.

Speaking of the Roots–the Beautiful Blog has their take with one from the writer himself and the rest on their subsection of sfgate.

First up, in a solo writeup Doug Zimmerman has his article on what to expect from the Roots in their USL sojourn.  Obviously that road from NISA has not been without any issues.

And in their debut, it looks like the Roots are not ready for prime time as they were defeated on the road 3-0 by Phoenix Rising FC.

Mistakes doom Oakland Roots in loss to Phoenix Rising, 3-0

The takeaways from the match. Once again thank you Doug.

Three things we learned: Oakland Roots loss to Phoenix Rising

And yes, the Quakes had a match last Friday at Salt Lake. After falling behind 1-0  from a late first half goal from Rubio Rubin, Chris Wondolowski came in as a sub in the 73rd minute for defender Tanner Beason, his off the bench effort resulted in 2 goals at the 83rd and 87 minutes securing a 2-1 win, and stealing 3 points on the road. The Quakes early in the season have 3 wins and the lone loss from opening day at Houston.

For his effort Wondo was named Player of the Week.  The team boasts the youngest player being honored in Cade Cowell and the eldest with the aforementioned Number 8.

The Quakes are back for two games this week, this Wednesday against Seattle 7:30 pm kickoff and Portland on Saturday 7:00 pm start.  The Roots have the week off to regroup before returning to the road next Saturday May 22 at the LA Galaxy second team.
