The Roots announced their 2022 USL Championship in January. They will open up on the road on March 12 at Rio Grande Valley and at Memphis the following Saturday before their home opener is March 26 against debutants Monterey Bay.
Some key rivalry dates include a Memorial Day weekend match against Sacramento at home on May 28 for the only Bay Area appearance this season while their return legs are scheduled at the Capitol on July 9 and August 27. Aside from the home opener against Monterey the Roots will head to the coast on Saturday June 4. Playoff rematches at home include the defending champions Orange County on June 1 and El Paso on July 16.
One of the most intriguing matches will take place in Detroit on August 13 where the Roots will be on the road against City in their only meeting. Both teams made the jump from NISA to the USL Championship with DCFC being perennial favorites while the Roots had a short stint in the lower tier before switching leagues and putting together a debut season which resulted in a playoff run.
