Quakes v Galaxy

For the first time since 2019, and delayed from June of this year due to a brush fire in the area, the Quakes and Galaxy finally played their game at Palo Alto. The 2021 return was at PayPal Park but Stanford Stadium has built a tradition since 2012 so this edition was the 10th year of play.

The one sour note was no Goonies magic as the Quakes fell short to the Galaxy 3-2 thanks to two goals from Javier “Chicharito” Hernandez and one from Gaston Brugman.  Cristian Espinoza scored off the spot in the second half to start a comeback but a stoppage time by Nathan was not enough as the visitors get the upper hand and stay in contention for the MLS Cup playoffs.

The Quakes finish their home season schedule with a game against Minnesota next weekend on October 1 and finish their slate on the road at Seattle on October 9, while the Galaxy return home to host Real Salt Lake on the same day before concluding their season at Houston–also on the 9th.
