This Week 12-4-23

Some hot stove news from the Quakes–some players either had their options exercised, declined, or are out of contract.  Rodrigues has been purchased from Brazilian club Gremio and is now part of the team. At least one, Jack Skahan, is in talks to return for 2024.

At least two familiar names will return to San Jose for next season.

With the Roots playing again at the Cal State campus in Hayward for next season and the Soul at Merritt College in Oakland, there is the outside chance the teams could become a tenant for 2025 with the baseball Athletics leaving for Las Vegas.  Jon at the Oakland Roots Blog has the take on this developing situation.

An  extra for this week–Manchester City on Sunday hosted a viewing party at Pier 70 for their match against Tottenham Hotspur.   While the result was a hotly contested draw at 3-3 there were some activities for the kids and adults to partake in, including the FA Cup, Premier League and UEFA Champions League trophies, and the UEFA Super Cup–which pits the best from the Champions League and the Europa League for some hardware.

The tour is part of a three city exhibit with stops in San Francisco, New York, and Washington, DC.   Manchester City fans can watch matches at Maggie’s on North Beach, along with Arsenal fans who share the bar with the team.

Our retrospective on Manchester City’s 2011 match against America is here.
