Bay FC v Chicago Stars FC

Bay FC v Chicago Stars FC

The Chicago Stars defeat Bay FC 1-0 at PayPal Park.  Mallory Swanson came off the bench at the second half to score a goal in the 71st minute for the only tally of the match.  A Bay FC goal in the first half by Taylor Huff late in the first half was nullified due to Cristina Girelli being offside leaving the match with no score.

There were six cards issued during the game with two reds–one issued to defender Aldana Cometti of the home team 11 minutes in for her tackle outside of the penalty area and the other to goalkeeper Jordan Silkowitz in the 63rd minute for playing the ball out of the area with her hands leaving the team with nine players.  Emma Allen had to replace the ejected keeper and played the rest of the game in her league debut.  The game was marred by fouls issued by the referee with cautions issued to Bay FC’s Claire Hutton (32nd minute) and Maddie Moreau (90th minute) and Chicago’s Nadia Gomes (45th minute) and Manaka Hayashi (88th minute).

The game was the last for the home team before the break for the men’s World Cup.  Next for Bay FC is a Friday Night Lights trip to Orlando on Friday May 29 at 4pm before a monthlong break in June and resuming the season July 5 at 9am on the road against Boston Legacy.  The Chicago Stars will return home to play San Diego on Sunday May 31 at 10am before pausing as well and resuming play hosting Utah on July 5 Utah 2pm kickoff.
