The Quakes second team and Austin FC II squared off at the old home of the original NASL club, albeit in what was the old parking lot. Since then the area has been built into the soccer facility for San Jose State and the junior teams played to a 1-1 draw before going down to penalty kicks.
Stefan Dobrijevic of the visitors gave Austin the lead with his 32nd goal, but Quakes II’s Alejandro Cano scored the equalizer in the 53rd minute off a feed from Edwyn Mendoza. The spot shootout went to six rounds, with the home team converting three of their attempts, while the visitors putting in four of their shots with Even Watt converting the last goal and giving them the extra point.
The Quakes reserves go on the road to face Minnesota on Saturday August 8 at 5pm, while Austin returns home to face Sporting Kansas City on Sunday August 9 at 5:30pm.
