NPSL Schedule

The season begins March 9.

Some key departures include Sonoma County Sol and FC Davis, who have joined the UPSL for this season.  San Ramon FC returns to the fold, while the Oakland Stompers will be at Chabot College in Hayward due to the baseball minor league team Oakland Ballers taking over Raimondi Park.  Defending conference champion El Farolito will now have later start times at Boxer Stadium with a 4pm kickoff.

This Week 3-4-24

After the off-season break, the Quakes are back to celebrate their 50th anniversary.  Unfortunately the team lose their home opener to the LA Galaxy.  Kevin and Jose at Soccer Bay Area has their take on the game

Earthquakes get blown out by Galaxy stars in home opener, raising doubt about team’s ceiling again

SF City’s B team in the SFSL just kicked off their season.  Their highlights are on the Instgram stories.

We’ve checked out a few of Silicon Valley Galaxy’s matches to start the year.  Their schedule has been announced and they will play in NISA Nation.

We’ll be catching up with more of the San Francisco Bay Area soccer stories in the coming days.

Quakes v Galaxy

For the first time in the MLS era the Quakes home opener was against the Galaxy.  The match was in conjunction with the 50th anniversary of the team’s founding in 1974 as a member of the NASL and in that era that incarnation of the Quakes played against the LA Aztecs.

However the visitors played spoiler and crashed the party as they defeated the Quakes 3 to 1.   Three successive goals from Joseph Paintsil (18th minute), Dejan Joveljić (43rd minute), and an early second half goal from Riqui Puig (48the minute) were enough to seal the win.

Former Galaxy player Preston Judd had the lone Quakes tally with his 70th minute goal.

Next up for the Quakes will be another home match against Vancouver on March 9 at 7:30 pm PT, while the Galaxy will continue on the road at Nashville on Sunday March 10 at 1pm PT.  Of note:  the Quakes will wear their white NASL themed 2024 jerseys for the next two home games this month.

This Week 2-26-23

Not much to report except the Quakes lose their 2024 league match 2-1 to FC Dallas.  Their home opener to kick off their 50th anniversary is on Saturday March 2 against the LA Galaxy who are coming off a loss to Inter Miami with the winning goal coming in from Lionel Messi at the waning moments of the match.

However we’ll share the thoughts of the upcoming season from Soccer Bay Area courtesy of Doug.

Plus one more from KQED on SF City – we’ll let this one from KQED speak for itself.

The USL Championship begins their season next month along with the USL League Two, NPSL, and UPSL clubs.  Plus two more bits of news.

Congratulations to Albion Silicon Valley for winning the Abronzino Cup.

This Week 2-19-24

A short break before the start of the upcoming season.  The Quakes finally begin their 2024 MLS season against Dallas on the road before their home opener against LA Galaxy on March 2 in the first Clasico to open that schedule.

Since there was no game coverage due to the inclement weather our story has to do with the Quakes with the unveiling of their new jersey which includes the classic NASL team crest and a block party in San Jose to kick off the season the party was a celebration of the team of what has been done in the past, where the team is present now, and hopefully a bright future.  The older generation has seen the demise of the old NASL, the advent of the San Francisco Bay Blackhawks and the return of soccer with MLS with the team starting off as the Clash before reverting to the original name.  This clip best explains things.

SF City schedule

The 2024 schedule has been dropped.  Our plan is to be at most if not all of the home games but the tentative plan is to hit an away match.

The NPSL and Quakes 2 announced their schedules recently and we will have the report on that soon.  For now, enjoy this clip from the team since it can rival most of the announcements from the major sports.

A bit of a disclaimer – the writer is a lifetime member of the club.

This Week 2-12-24

Our one match was at Beach Chalet.

There is some hot stove news that we will update later this week.  Also, the Quakes 2 and NPSL schedule were announced in the past week.  The USL League Two will be announced later this week and the information will be posted in the coming days this month.  The same will also apply to the USL W–of note the Super League will begin later this summer and it has been granted Division One status by the US Soccer Federation.  Since the Roots stadium situation is ongoing the Soul will play once again in the W.

Doug at Soccer Bay Area and Jon at the Roots Blog have their takes on the upcoming Roots season.  Check it out.
