A Wondo strike that was later credited as an own goal got the Quakes off to a quick lead in the 2nd minute, with Vako extending the lead later in the 34th minute. Shea Salinas later put the dagger on the game in the 83th minute to give the Quakes another victory. A goal from Colorado’s Diego Rubio in the closing minutes of the game was the only blemish in a possible clean sheet.
Next on the league schedule for the Quakes will be the Columbus Crew on August 3 at 6:45pm. The Rapids return home to host Montreal on the same day, 6pm start. The teams will play again the following week on August 10 this time at the Rapids home field.
In a battle between the Western Conference bottom dwellers, the 11th place Colorado Rapids and last place Quakes played in a game that was fit to be tied, and with a goalless draw. Chris Wondowlowski had several chances to draw the record but was stopped by Rapids goalkeeper Tim Howard, who had a very spectacular game with 4 saves. The game was marked by the debut of 16 year old Gilbert Fuentes who came in as a substitute at the 89th minute.
