Quakes v Atlanta United

The Quakes played a very spirited game against top ranked Atlanta United FC, only to once again let the lead slip away with a 4-3 loss.  Nick Lima and Danny Hoesen accounted for the first half scoring, while Vako added one more in the second half.  Chris Wondolowski, as a second half sub for Hoesen, had his goal disallowed only to award the penalty kick to Atlanta for a previously called handball by way of video assisted replay.  Hector Villalba opened the scoring for the visitors with his stoppage time goal in the first half.  Josef Martinez later scored on the penalty kick in the 70th minute, followed by a strike from Miguel Almiron 3 minutes later.  Martinez later sealed the win with his late stoppage time goal.

Quakes v Sporting Kansas City

The Quakes continued their season of futility with a 5-1 loss to Sporting Kansas City.  Danny Hoesen accounted for the only scoring with his goal in the 80th minute with the assist from Luis Felipe.  Felipe Gutierrez opened up the scoring for KC in the 7th minute and they held on to the lead for the rest of the match.  Gerso Fernandes added 2 goals, while former Quakes defender Ike Opara had one more late in the first half.  Krisztian Nemeth also contributed to the KC tally in the second half.  Chris Wondolowski was held scoreless in his quest to break the MLS all-time goal scoring record.  The win by Sporting KC puts them in first place with 51 points, one ahead of FC Dallas with 50.

Quakes v FC Dallas

In the return leg  FC Dallas and the San Jose Earthquakes met for the second time this season and in the month of August.  Maximiliano Urruti opened up the scoring with his goal in the 8th minute to give the visitors a 1-0 lead.  However Vako responded with 2 goals of his own in the 15th and 42nd minute to give the Quakes a 2-1 lead at the half.  Dallas evened up the score 6 minutes into the second half with a tally from Santiago Mosquera in the 51st minute to tie at 2-2.  The home team took the lead back a short time later with a goal from Magnus Eriksson in the 54th minute.  The game was tied again 3-3 with a score from Dominique Badji in the 58th minute.  The home team finally got something to cheer abut with a goal from Chris Wondolowski with an assist from Vako in the 62nd minute.  The goal was the 142nd of his illustrious career and moved him 3 goals closer to the record of 145 set by Landon Donovan.  The Quakes never looked back and won their second home game of the season with a 4-3 win over FC Dallas.  The victory also marked a sweep of the home and home series for San Jose, having won 3-1 at Frisco, TX on August 4.

Quakes v Whitecaps

Jahmir Hyka kicked off the scoring with a goal in the 7th minute while Magnus Eriksson notched the second goal from the penalty spot in the 18th minute to give the Quakes a 2-0 lead at the half.  However, that slipped away in only 2 minutes thanks to goals from Yordy Reyna in the 59th minute and Cristian Techera in the 61st to give the Whitecaps the tie.  Their comeback was complete with a goal from Kei Kamara in the 68th minute and the visitors ended up with a 3-2 win.  The Quakes remain with just one home win since the opener on March 3.

Both teams will have one more chance at each other with a return trip to Canada Saturday September 1 at 7pm but the Quakes will play another game beforehand with a mid-week home match hosting FC Dallas on Wednesday August 29 at 7pm.  For the Whitecaps this game is a home and home with their next match being against the very same Quakes.

Quakes v Toronto FC

Chris Wondolowski moved closer to the all-time goal scoring record with his equalizer in the 77th minute as the Quakes were able to salvage a 1-1 draw.  Newcomer Lucas Janson opened the scoring with his goal in the 59th minute.  The match also marked the return of Quakes alumni Justin Morrow and Jason Hernandez, who both started the game for the defending MLS Cup champions Toronto FC.

The goal was the 141st of Wondo’s illustrious career and moves him 4 towards the all-time scoring record of Landon Donovan’s mark of 145.

The Quakes will continue their homestand against another Canadian club, this time against the Vancouver Whitecaps next Saturday August 25 at 7pm and conclude the August schedule against FC Dallas at home on Wednesday August 29.  Toronto FC returns home to meet up against rival Canadian team Montreal Impact on the same day before returning to the west coast to play the Portland Timbers on August 29.

Quakes v Real Salt Lake

In a very spirited game marked with five yellow cards, the Quakes had chances to score a goal but the effort was salvaged in a 0-0 draw.  Andrew Tarbell earned the clean sheet in the match, while Quincy Amarikwa had his strike hit the crossbar which was probably the best chance for the team.

Quakes v Sounders

Raul Ruidiaz made his debut for the Sounders with a bang with a goal in the 62nd minute.  That accounted for the only score of the game as Seattle defeated San Jose 1-0.  The loss continued the string of futility for the Quakes with only one home game win from opening night against Minnesota (March 3) and no wins since their road win, again over Minnesota (May 12).  The game also marked the MLS debuts for Guram Kashia and Luis Felipe.

The Quakes will need to turn things around quickly with a Saturday match against Real Salt Lake at home on July 28 at 7:15pm.  Seattle returns home to host New York City FC on Sunday July 29 at 2pm.

Quakes v Galaxy

Chris Wondowlowski added to his legend with a brace thanks to an early first half goal and a second half penalty kick.  However, Zlatan Ibrahimovic added two goals to his own tally while Romain Alessandrini rounded up the Galaxy scoring, all in the first half.  Vako contributed to the Quakes scoring with his tally in the 39th minute.  The eighth game at Stanford Stadium (and seventh overall between the two teams) ended up being a 3-3 draw.

Wondolowski’s two goals moved him closer to the all-time MLS record with 140 career goals.  He needs only 5 more to tie Landon Donovan for first place with 145.

Also one article here from QuakesTalk – which is another outside take on the team.   Chris Wondolowski and David Bingham seemed to have a grudge against each other–just me being a fan on this one.
