By the way, thank you James.  Looking forward to the next matchups. 🙂  James being Jimmy Conrad from the Quakes, Sporting KC, and the US National Team now plying his trade with the rival Glens.  We’ll be reporting on them as well.

We’ll be posting the retrospectives here at 3pointsport.com, and give SF City a follow.  Yes, the Glens as well.

Once again, continuing the series – this time posted by the team itself.  The home opener also marked the return to Kezar Stadium after spending the 2017 up the road at Negoesco Stadium at the University of San Francisco campus.

From October 20.  I took the shot so I’m MIA, and I’m not into the spotlight–just want to create fun and great stuff.  However, only a few words so it’s about serving the community.  Thank you San Francisco City.  And a shoutout to Standard Deviant Brewery!

SF City 2018 Recap

2018 SF City FC Season Recap

San Francisco City FC’s third season in the Premier Development League had its ups and downs, but, looking back, the Iron and Gold have a great deal to be proud of on and off the field in 2018.

Following a successful preseason that included three victories over nearby colleges and a narrow loss to three-peating national champion Stanford, City faced a daunting half-dozen away matches to begin the PDL campaign. The road was not kind to the squad, as a scoreless draw at the Orange County U23s provided the only point of the stretch. On the difficult opening, head coach Paddy Coyne remarked, “Although we lost on the road, I didn’t think we played badly. Orange County, Southern California, and San Diego should have all been wins, in my opinion, but that’s sports.”

Santa Cruz Breakers v SF City

SF City finished their 2018 PDL season on the road with an afternoon 2-0 win over the Santa Cruz Breakers at Cabrillo College in Aptos.  Gerardo Mendoza’s two goals were the difference maker in this game as City ended things on a positive note.

The win closed off in what was a season of highs and lows.  The top highlight was their US Open Cup win at Oakland against NPSL contenders CD Aguiluchos, and a road win at Boxer against their crosstown rivals the Glens.  Despite their slow start to the season on the road that resulted in 5 losses and 1 draw, City finished strong taking 2 wins over the Breakers and 1 against the Seahorses; only their loss at home against the Glens was the taint on that streak.   The team has very high expectations of contending once again in their division and an established Bay Area rivalry against the Glens and the Breakers.

SF City v SF Glens

In what was a goalless draw in the return leg of the SF PDL Derby, Arda Bulut scored off the penalty spot in the 85th minute to break the deadlock.  That accounted for the only tally of the match as the Glens exacted a measure of revenge in their 1-0 road win over SF City.  For this season each team won on the road, as City did at Boxer Stadium on June 2 and the Glens returning the favor on July 12.

The Glens will finish out the season Saturday July 14 against the Fresno FC U23s at Boxer Stadium at 3pm.  City will hit the road to play the Santa Cruz Breakers on Sunday July 15 at 5pm to complete the 2018 season.
