Quakes v Crew

Despite very chippy play and a red card to Jamiro Monteiro in the 33rd minute and losing the lead, the Quakes come back and salvage a point with a 3-3 draw.

The Quakes got off to a 1-0 lead thanks to a Cristian Espinoza penalty kick at the  9th minute, but the Crew scored three answered goals thanks to Lucas Zelarayan in the 40th and 73rd minutes with Gyasi Zardes adding a tally as a substitute in the 68th minute.

The Quakes were able to come back and grab a point thanks to Francisco Calvo scoring in the 84th minute and six minutes into stoppage time.  Jan Gregus provided the assists on both goals.

Our selection is here – more can be found on the 3pointsport gram.

The Quakes will go on the road for the first time in 2022 when they visit Philadelphia on Saturday March 12 4:30 PST kickoff.  The Crew will return home and host Toronto on the same day 10:30am PST.

Quakes v Red Bulls

The Quakes kicked off their 2022 season at home with most social distancing restrictions at PayPal Park lifted from the global pandemic. With their captain Chris Wondolowski retired and Jackson Yueill now leading the helm the team is now faced with forging a new identity and head coach Matias Almeyda in the last year of his deal–the mission for the team is postseason or bust.  The home opener was a disappointment with the Quakes losing 3 to 1 to the Red Bulls.

Patryk Klimala opened up the scoring in the waning minutes of the first half but Chofis was able to draw the equalizer at the 69th minute.  As of now, he is only expected to stay until June 30 unless his loan can be extended to the remainder of the season.

Unfortunately for Quakes fans, Omir Fernandez gave the Red Bulls the lead again in the 72nd minute with Tom Barlow scoring the insurance goal in stoppage time to give the visitors 3 points on the road.

Our notebook is now here on this site. Other pics can be found on our instagram feed.

The Quakes continue their homestand hosting Columbus on Saturday March 5 at 2:30.  The Red Bulls play at Toronto on the same day at 11:00 am PST before their home opener on March 13 against Minnesota at noon.

Quakes v FC Dallas

The Quakes drew even with Dallas with each side scoring a goal.  The only scoring came in the first half with a goal from Chris Wondolowski in the 34th minute.  Dallas later tied the match eight minutes later with a tally from Jader Obrian.

With the result Wondo finishes his MLS career with 171 goals, as he announced his retirement to the fans post-game.

The Quakes finish their season with  a 10-13-11 record and 41 points–well out of the post-season.  The off-season will certainly mark new changes with a new roster scheduled to return on February 26.  The 2022 MLS season will run through Sunday October 9 with MLS Cup scheduled to be played on Saturday November 5–two weeks before the World Cup begins in Qatar.  The Quakes schedule will be announced at a later date and next season will  start a new chapter in the team’s history with someone waiting in the wings to inherit the mantle of The Eternal Captain Wondo.

Roots v Sporting Kansas City 2

Before a sellout crowd of over 5000 and the final game of the USL Championship season the Oakland Roots needed a win coupled with a LA Galaxy 2 draw or loss to qualify for the playoffs in their debut season at the second tier after their stint in NISA.

The result came true thanks to a 3rd minute goal by Chuy Enriquez the Roots held on to a 1-0 victory.  However, the team and fans had to wait an extra 30 minutes until Orange County scored a late minute goal to defeat Los Dos 1-0 and assuring the Roots of a playoff berth.

The single elimination playoff will have the Roots open up at El Paso to play the Locomotive on Friday November 5 at 6:30pm.
