This Week 8-19-19

No new news, except the Quakes continue their road trip with another loss to Sporting Kansas City 2-1.  Chris Wondolowski’s first half goal gives him another 10 goal season, and continues his career tally to 154 goals.  The Quakes conclude their road trip to Los Angeles where they will take on LAFC on Wednesday.

Our coverage resumes this weekend with the Quakes hosting Vancouver kickoff set for 6:45 pm on Saturday.  Also on the same day, Napa Valley 1839 FC kicks off their NPSL Members Cup home schedule hosting Detroit City FC at 7pm.

Oakland Roots to begin full season play in 2020 with NISA. Detroit City, which is competing in the NPSL Members Cup this fall, and Chattanooga FC are also in the fold.

This Week 8-12-19

The Quakes were on the road at Colorado and on the return leg the Rapids get the upper hand this time with a 2-1 win.  Carlos Fiero made his Quakes debut as a second half substitute in the 58th minute for Shea Salinas.

In a friendly, the Oakland Roots made their debut with a friendly against JASA Redwood City, with the NISA club coming up with a 1-0 win.  The Roots will kick off their regular season hosting Cal United on August 31 at Laney College 7pm start.  Tickets are on sale now.

Also the Oakland Stompers announce their home USPL Fall slate.

Update 8/12/19 6:50pm: In NPSL Members Cup action Napa Valley kicked off their campaign with a road trip against the Milwaukee Torrent, with the home team winning 2-0.  NV1839 FC kick off their home slate against Detroit City FC on August 24 7pm kickoff.

Quakes v Crew

Quakes draw 1-1 with the Crew.  Magnus Eriksson converted a penalty kick in the 41st minute to give the home team a lead.  However, Gyasi Zardes tied the game with his goal in the 65th minute and the result was each team getting a point and the Quakes’ have 8 wins and 2 draws at 10 home games since April 6.

The Quakes now head back to the road to face the Colorado Rapids in their second meeting in two weeks with the visitors hoping to sweep the series on August 10 6pm start. Columbus will next host interstate rival FC Cincinnati for the first time in MLS for Ohio bragging rights on the same day 4:30 kickoff.

A Wondo strike that was later credited as an own goal got the Quakes off to a quick lead in the 2nd minute, with Vako extending the lead later in the 34th minute.   Shea Salinas later put the dagger on the game in the 83th minute to give the Quakes another victory.  A goal from Colorado’s Diego Rubio in the closing minutes of the game was the only blemish in a possible clean sheet.

Next on the league schedule for the Quakes will be the Columbus Crew on August 3 at 6:45pm. The Rapids return home to host Montreal on the same day, 6pm start.  The teams will play again the following week on August 10 this time at the Rapids home field.
