By the way, thank you James.  Looking forward to the next matchups. 🙂  James being Jimmy Conrad from the Quakes, Sporting KC, and the US National Team now plying his trade with the rival Glens.  We’ll be reporting on them as well.

We’ll be posting the retrospectives here at 3pointsport.com, and give SF City a follow.  Yes, the Glens as well.

Friday News/Press Conference

Not much to report except the Quakes will be on the road playing out the schedule against the Houston Dynamo.  Kickoff at 5:30pm on NBCSCA Plus.

Also the Oakland Stompers are fresh off their win last weekend over the Oakland Leopards (Oakland Roots reserves) in the first round of the US Open Cup.  They open up UPSL league play against Real San Jose at Raimondi Park Saturday 7:30 pm.

Also, Jimmy Conrad was introduced as the SF Glens Technical Director/Associate Head Coach.  It looks like that he will be coaching not only the PDL (USL: League Two) outfit as an assistant but also will be overseeing the various teams under the team’s umbrella ranging from futsal to the youth groups.  Conrad’s playing resume includes stints with the San Jose Earthquakes/Clash, Kansas City Wizards (Sporting Kansas City), and in college with UCLA.  He also played in the 2006 World Cup for the USA.

SF Glens v Fresno FC U23s

Ranier Plantinos opened up the scoring for the Glens in the 19th minute.  However, that was the only goal for the team in the season finale, as the Zorritos tied the score at the 76th minute.  The game ended up in a 1-1 draw.

The Glens can hold their head high to finish the season, having a scoreless draw against FC Golden State Force, wins over the Seahorses and their crosstown rivals SF City, and another draw against Fresno.  The team can go into the off-season with hopes of improving their standing next year.

SF City v SF Glens

In what was a goalless draw in the return leg of the SF PDL Derby, Arda Bulut scored off the penalty spot in the 85th minute to break the deadlock.  That accounted for the only tally of the match as the Glens exacted a measure of revenge in their 1-0 road win over SF City.  For this season each team won on the road, as City did at Boxer Stadium on June 2 and the Glens returning the favor on July 12.

SF Glens v Orange County SC U23s

In a match that was moved from Boxer Stadium to the Beach Chalet at the west end of Golden Gate Park, the San Francisco Glens hosted the Orange County SC U23s. Ranier Plantinos opened up the  scoring with his goal in the 17th minute.  However, the lead was short lived as Conor Gordon responded with a brace with goals in the 23rd minute to equalize and in the 36th minute that gave the visitors a 2-1 lead and eventually the victory.  Their wins Friday at Kezar Stadium vs SF City and Sunday against the SF Glens gave them the sweep on their road trip.

SF Glens v SF City

In the second match held at Boxer Stadium, Kamron Krow and Ryder Bell each scored in the first half for City, while keeper Remi Prieur saved an early penalty attempt by the Glens’ Tawwab Emiol to give the third year PDL team a 2-1 win over the debutants in the inaugural San Francisco derby.  Emiol later scored in the second half to give the Glens their only tally of the match.

Update 6/5: City view of the match

This week 4-23-18 part 2

Last week, we at 3pointsport were at the Stanford University campus watching San Francisco City FC take on the defending NCAA champions with the home team defeating City 2-1.  This time, we checked out the PDL debutants in the San Francisco Glens SC.

The Stanford Cardinal were just a bit too much for the newest San Francisco PDL team thanks to an early goal followed by 3 more (one off a penalty kick) to give them a 4-0 lead.  However, the clean sheet was not to be thanks to a 2nd half goal from Rajaee Delane to put the Glens on the board.  The final result was a 4-1 victory for Stanford–sweeping the SF PDL clubs in their preseason schedule.

The Glens will kick off their PDL season at their home field Boxer Stadium against another league debutant the Santa Cruz Breakers on Saturday May 5 at 5pm .  Unfortunately, we will not be there for the inaugural event due to the Quakes playing the Timbers playing at Avaya Stadium.  We will be covering the Glens on an intermittent basis here at the website with the photo notebook on their matches being added on the 3pointsport Facebook page.  We will also be posting their games to flickr where the sets are from the lower division clubs, from the PDL to the NPSL.

Keep checking for more highlights on the San Francisco Bay Area soccer scene from the US National team to MLS to the PDL and NPSL.  If there is a USL club or if the NASL is able to return we will be covering them too.  Stay tuned for game highlights from the top tier to the bottom flight.
