This Week 1-10-22

The Roots return to play at Laney College on March 26 at 7pm hosting debutant Monterey Bay Union.  Their 2022 season will begin with a road trip to Rio Grande Valley on March 12 before returning home to start a new NorCal rivalry.

As for Monterey Bay in addition to the Roots match, they will open on the same night at Phoenix before finally opening up their home on May 7.  Sacramento will host El Paso to round up the opening weekend.

Also watch for the Southwest Premier League.  The teams have been split into two divisions with each team playing a home and home (1 home and 1 away) and one game against each (2 teams home once, the other 2 away once).  The East is stacked with Solano in the North Bay, Dublin in the East, with Lobos United and Modesto from the San Joaquin Valley.

The West is more of a regional group with Metro coming out of San Francisco, AFC South Bay playing from the San Jose area, and JASA and Juventus Academy playing from Redwood City.

The full schedule for the USL Championship and Southwest Premier (which has a NISA affiliation) will be announced at a future date, as well as the NPSL and USL League schedule.

And a thank you to Non-League America.

Plus, the Oakland Roots will have their practice facility in Alameda, taking over the old Oakland Raiders grounds.  With the place unoccupied by the Raiders moving the Las Vegas the Roots now have a training ground for 2022 and in our personal opinion much needed even if for only that year.

Also, Sunday’s Quakes match marked the end of a very illustrious career for Chris Wondolowski.
